AEROSOL, SPRAY AND MIST SEPARATION

Coalescers / Liquid-Liquid Separators

AWS liquid-liquid separation technology can solve a wide range of separation problems involving immiscible liquids. Whether your needs are capacity constraints, loss of valuable solvents or more stringent environmental compliance, AWS Corp can help you meet these requirements.

We can offer different types of coalescer media and cost-effective solutions for every application, in case of new applications or for retrofits.

LIQUID-LIQUID COALESCENCE:
HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are three steps to the separation of an emulsion of two immiscible phases. Collection, coalescence, and gravity separation. Introduction of coalescing media is done for the purpose of improving both the collection and coalescence processes.

The drop-to-drop coalescence that takes place after the entrainment has been collected on a target is aided by the capillarity and wetting characteristics of the media. The gravity separation that is done downstream of coalescer media is dependent mainly on the geometry of the vessel and “boot” and dispersed phase residence time. Downstream internals may be added to accelerate this process.

DIVERSE RANGE OF COALESCER MEDIA:

  • Wire mesh packs
  • Corrugated plate packs
  • Glass fiber candel
  • Plate pack coalescer
  • Combination media

Plate Pack Coalescer

Description:

A plate pack coalescer is used in the liquid section of a separator or scrubber to optimize the degree of liquid-liquid separation. The flow through the narrowly spaced plates is laminar and smaller droplets are separated since the distance the dispersed phases have to travel to the interface is greatly reduced. The plates are bundled in small compartment which fit through the man way. The operating principle of parallel plate separators relies on the density difference between the oil and water phase: Oil droplets in the water phase will rise to the oil/water interface and water droplets in the oil phase will settle.

Applications:

  • Oil/water separation
  • Haze removal from Diesel and Kerozine

Performance:

For dispersions down to 50-100 microns, it is possible to achieve efficient separation with this technique, and it is the preferred equipment design where the potential for solids or tarry liquids exists.
