AWS CASE HISTORY - SO3 LIQUEFATION PLANT

The customer’s need was to remove SO3 in the liquefaction plant inside a production plant for sulphuric acid. The flowrate reached 13.000 Nm3/h with a gas temperature of 60°C and gas pressure of 0,05 bar(g).
According to this process conditions we suggested a supply of DOUBLE FIBERWINDTM MIST ELIMINATORS with GX fiber inside and outer cage made in SS316L

As already explained in one of our previous articles, the new GX recipe combines different layers facilitating the drainage of the liquid collected. Thanks to the different technical feature of each layer, the GX filter ensures an excellent reduction of the pressure drop, at least 30% lower than the conventional elements. Guaranteed 99% mist removal at design inlet mist loading for most applications.

AWS CASE HISTORY - DT / IAT / FAT

Our customer needed 2 different mist eliminators for the absorption tower inside the sulphuric acid production plant:

For the drying tower (DT) the main objective was to separate sulphuric acid mist from the gas. The meshpad demister is essential for the separation of liquid and gas, in order to avoid the corrosion of piping and other related issues. The demister is made of 2 different layers: PTFE co-knitted + Alloy 20. These two materials are suitable in acid environments with concentration between 94 and 98,5%.

Our solution: Co-knitted WIREMATTM - Meshpad mist eliminator with double layers.

For the intermediate absorption tower (IAT) and final absorption tower (FAT) the type of mist coming into IAT and FAT has a very fine particle size distribution, therefore we wouldn’t advise a meshpad demister because of its low removal efficiency.

Our suggestion for IAT is to install FiberwindTM BM candles instead, which ensure a proper mist elimination as well as protecting the catalyst converter, which is a crucial (and very expensive) part of the whole plant.
In FAT both Brownian and Impact candles are suitable, but our experience lead us to propose BM candles in order to ensure a complete elimination of the visible plume coming out of the chimney stack.

AWS CASE HISTORY - Dust / H2S / SO2 / H2SO4 mist removal scrubber

Our customer’s request was to remove several pollutants in a Sulphur melting pit: what a better occasion to install a customized Jet Venturi scrubber “Jet ThroathTM”.

Venturi scrubbers are designed to collect particles at very high collection efficiencies, sometimes exceeding 99%. The ability of these products is to handle large inlet volumes at high temperatures and to reduce particulate emissions in numerous industrial applications.

In this exact case, we suggested a group of different solution in order to completely remove the above-mentioned pollutants:

  • FRP/PTFE Jet Venturi scrubber: Dust removal
  • FRP/PP Packing scrubber and caustic soda addition: SO2 & H2S absorption (Packings help enlarge the contact surface)
  • PP Mesh pad: needed to capture SO3 mist (for particle bigger than 3 microns)

All of these solutions together have successfully met our customer’s needs.
